Filipino, Nepalese, and Vietnamese passport holders (as of April 1, 2025). The new TB screening will be extended to those of Indonesia, Myanmar and China later (TBC).
The Government of Japan has introduced a new measure to prevent the spread of tuberculosis in Japan. Travelers from those countries must undergo the TB screening before visiting Japan for three months or longer. Implementation will be phased in several stages (see below). Nationals of these countries need to submit to Nagoya University a health certificate (TB Clearance Certificate) showing that you are tuberculosis-free. To receive the certificate, applicants must be checked by a doctor and undergo a chest X-ray examination at a medication institution designated by Japan in their home country. Note: A TB Clearance Certificate is not required if you don’t have a passport from those countries. If some documentation confirms that the applicant's current place of residence is outside the target countries or regions, you are exempt from the TB screening. Likewise, those temporarily residing in or visiting those target countries as a foreign passport holder do not need the TB Clearance Certificate.
